"Commemorating its 30^th Anniversary in March 2008, Zenith Gallery will present a mixed-media show featuring trees in all their fabulous forms … be it a Washington tree, a symbolic tree, a grove of trees, a fantasy, an edible tree, a forest or a tree unique to a country, city or state.

The concept for the show stems from owner Margery Goldberg's longtime interest in and reverence for trees. A wood sculptor, conservationist and Washington resident, she says, "It seems only fitting that we celebrate our remarkable milestone with a show about trees, which symbolize life, friendship, evolution and endurance. Not to mention Washington, DC's status as the Tree Capital of the United States, made so by the sheer number and variety of trees given to our city by other countries and states."

For Goldberg, the Trees of Life exhibition also serves as a metaphor for the deep roots Zenith has established in Washington, DC, extending out to artists and collectors across America. "For the artists", she adds, "the tree theme can spark imagery on so many levels; for trees provide the air we breathe, the shelter we live in, the heat that warms us, the fruit that feeds us, the beauty that surrounds us and a place in the shade to sit and talk with those we care about."

Since opening its doors in 1978, Zenith has been at the forefront of the Washington arts scene. Established by Goldberg at Zenith Square, a 50-studio, 50,000 square-foot artists' haven she founded on Rhode Island Avenue NW near 14^th Street, the gallery moved to its present downtown Penn Quarter location in 1986.
