Color of artnlife
The stuff of art colored by life.
Entry for November 25, 2008
Have been busy w/the Teaching Artist Training- earlier in NOV was a 3 day retreat w/artists of different disciplines from MD and Master Teaching Artists. We were matched with a classroom teacher and I will be working at an elem. school in Bowie in Jan. for a 4-day residency.

We will be having Thanksgiving here w/my family. Tofurkey, etc. and real turkey...somehow i don't feel ambitious right now- (cooking/foodwise). I think i've been out of sorts w/my torn-up knee (hazard of carrying too many things- kitchen cabinets, etc).

Still investigating studio space and options. Visited one office nearby and may join one or two other artists with the space. We are considering it.

just not with heat or ac on the weekends or after 6pm.

My own home studio is overcrowded and of course I would really benefit w/a total overhaul and re-organization...(and would find more space that way.)

Back up to last week--- went to the 'surviving as an artist' panel discussion at Mont. College sponsored by MC and AHCMC.

******

Working and Surviving as an Artist: Establishing and Maintaining Professional Relationships ---The panel includes: June Linowitz, artist and founder of ArtSeen; Claudia Rousseau, art historian and critic; and Ellyn Weiss, artist and curator, will be moderated by Susie Leong, AHCMC's Director of Public Arts Trust.

I think it was great that there was a good turnout and made me realize that there IS an artist community here. The panel was pretty good at fielding the questions and I thought they'd be great with their own show. Pretty honest answers about the economy and what artists can do, resources, etc.

It was a pretty full couple of days for me---- FRIDAY am, I left w/my sisters for a day trip to PHILADELPHIA. Again, we visited the Fabric Museum and Workshop and spent a long time at Reading Terminal. (food, etc). We spent some time in the Old City and visited several galleries. Very active art scene in Phila.

Also, seems that artists are supported there, w/living and workspace. We re-visited a pretty good thrift store- the AIDS thrift store

(http://phillyaidsthrift.blogspot.com/ http://phillyaidsthrift.com/home.html ---re-stocking my scarves for this chilly Winter), then, off to the best restaurant---Horizons, http://www.horizonsphiladelphia.com/for vegetarian dinner. Then, we drove home. And the next day (SAT) was all day in Towson for part II of the TEaching Artist Institute. Very good info. about classroom management.

well, here we go. I am going to think about getting the house in order for Thxgvng. Have a GREAT holiday to anyone who is reading this.

Marcie, great hearing about the "Surviving as an Artist" panel discussion you attended. I should have known about something so informative for artists. Thanks again also for visiting my recent exhibit at the Orchard Gallery in Bethesda
